Complete this application if you're planning on owning and operating an interstate for-hire motor carrier company.

New Motor Carrier Authority [with or without an existing USDOT #

Freight Forwarding Authority

It takes a MINIMUM of 22 days before you'll be able to operate as an interstate motor carrier.

Insurance must be in place to activate the authority. We recommend you file the insurance 2 weeks after the application has been filed to remain on the 3-week timeline.

There is no way to speed up this process with the FMCSA even if all requirements are met early.

NOTICE:

There is a 90 day timeline to activate your authority before the FMCSA dismisses the application. Once the authority is dismissed you have to start over and pay the fees again. Be sure you can activate your authority within this 90-day window.

Insurance requirements:

Non-hazardous Freight transported on vehicles OVER 10.001 GVW - Insurance required : $750,000 - $5,000,000, depending on commodities transported

Non-hazardous Freight transported on vehicles UNDER 10.001 GVW - Insurance required $300,000 .
